Paraprosdokians

Winston Churchill loved them! They are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence/phrase is surprising or unexpected, frequently humorous.

1. Where's there's a will, I want to be in it.

2. The last thing I want to do is hurt you, but it's still on my list.

3. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

4. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

5. We never really grow up; we only learn how to act in public.

I thank those who know I enjoy inserting things like this in the newsletters. Thanks for sending them.

This is either scary or helpful when satellite technology and the web combine to provide information such as this. From the link below, type in your street address and zip code and in 2-4 seconds a satellite image of 50 to 60 homes around your area will fill the screen, click on the number designating a house and out comes the names of your neighbors and their phone numbers. There are pros and cons to this technology and I'm sure you'll come up with your own list of what is good or bad about this.

I LOVE THIS WOMAN
An elderly lady was standing at the railing of the cruise ship holding her hat tight so that it would not blow away in the wind.
A gentleman approached her and said, "Pardon me, madam.. I do not intend to be forward but did you know that your dress is blowing up in this high wind?"
"Yes, I know," said the lady. "I need both my hands to hold onto this hat."
"But madam, you must know that you are not wearing any panties and your privates are exposed!" said the gentleman in earnest.
The woman looked down, then back up at the man and replied, "Sir, anything you see down there is 75 years old.
I just bought this hat yesterday!"

Brown Bag Lunch Bunch listening to Eric Morgan from LOVE INC. (in the name of Christ)

h

Each month, a group of gals who graduated from GHHS meet for lunch. There is never any set number that attend, it's women from many classes who bring their lunch, have lots of conversation as well as talking about what impact we might do in taking on a project. We've taken on worthy ones throughout the years.

In the past we've sponsored a "Feed America" truck three times, taken care of a family of 5 whose husband/father is incarcerated, provided May baskets for Women in Transition and this last project was our involvement in Hope House, a shelter for homeless women. The above photo is the Head of LOVE INC., Eric Morgan. We chose to meet at the old NOCH (north ottawa care center), once a nursing home. It' has been empty for 2 1/2 years and when the need became so great, the director looked for a place that would serve as a shelter. We had the chance to tour it and hear and see a presentation that LOVE INC. created. It was overwhelming to see the statistics. In our small county, the 10 room home that is next to NOCH, once a Hospice center, is now Hopes House that is a homey type place for women and children. Beautiful facility. They are now in the process of converting the old NOCH into a mens and famlies shelter. When the idea was developed and put into action, they had 10 women who were desperate for a shelter, it didn't take long and the list of homeless women rose to 84. Would you believe we have that many?

Through a generous local businessman and many donors and donations, they were able to purchase the old Robbins Road Hardware. It wll become a used store with donations from area residents. It's a huge success story in SL at the old Eshelmans Drug Store.....this being so close to the shelters it will allow the residents an opportunity to donate time working in the store. It's a win-win for everyone. I particularly liked hearing the strict rules enforced if you are lucky enough to become a resident. You don't lay on your bed all day or sit in a chair watching time go by.....you have duties to perform and if you are lucky enough to find a job, they help with classes to learn to manage money, and eventually ian apartment and then you graduate and are on your own. A certain win for the resident.

SO, if you see the words LOVE INC., know that they are a great source of help here in the Tri-Cities. All the food pantries are associated with them, they are the base and receive the food donations and then distribute them to area churches and food pantries. It's a large organization that has grown and grown. Hats off to LOVE INC.

These gorgeous flowers were in full bloom in my yard back in March when I arrived from FL. Is there anything prettier than bright yellow Daffodils?

Mary Lou Witherell Matzen. She looks like she was ready to break out into a song! ☺

T H I N K before you speak
T - is it true?
H - is it helpful?
I - is it inspriing?

Wouldn't this be great if everyone followed this small phrase when speaking?

Please remember these friends with a card. It's such a reminder that you are thinking of them today. Diane Gignac / 15235 Millhouse Ct. / Grand Haven, MI. 49417

Workers have entered the homestretch in refurbishing a new boat for display at the entrance to Grand Haven from the north. “A boat marking the entrance is a very powerful statement about who we are,” Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival Executive Director Mike Smith said.

Volunteers are refurbishing a 41-foot boat — the same type used by Station Grand Haven from 1976-98. It arrived in late 2011 after city crews removed an older 36-foot motor lifeboat and took it to a Muskegon museum.

“It’s always been the right thing to have — and this is a newer, sleeker version and will require less maintenance,” Smith said.

This will close the letter for May.

I spoke to a couple classmates at Rose Snoeks funeral and they mentioned my saying that perhaps deaths of classmates would be best if it wasn't mentioned. Under no circumstances do they NOT want me to insert it in the news. I guess we wouldn't be living in the real world if we didn't realize that death is just part of life. SO as they instructed me, I will continue to send you the latest news, good or bad. And I agree.

Until next time,
From Class Central
